Most opals are sedimentary rocks, but Ethiopian opals are hydrophane varieties that are created from the consequences of volcanic activity. This milky white to yellow mineral is mostly commonly mined from a only a few locations in Ethiopia, mostly commonly sourced from the North Shewa or Wollo Provinces. Derived from the Greek word “opallios”, which means to see a color change, this variety of opal is unique due to its ability to display all colors of the rainbow when viewed from different angles. Opal is sometimes treated by smoke, heat, dye or acid in an effort to darken its base color or brighten the rainbow spectrum. Although the altered gemstones can be popular on the market, they tend to lower the value of the opal removing its original purity.
History
Although opals have been long found to have mystical powers in many ancient cultures, the Ethiopia Opal has only recently been discovered. In 1990, this variety of opal was first discovered in the Menz Gishe District and not commercially mined until 2008. The ancient Greeks did believe that the opal would offer the wearer the gift of prophecy and guard against disease and illness. In Ancient Roman culture, there is a legend about the Roman Senator, Nonius, who owned one of the most beautiful opals that existed. Instead of gifting it Cleopatra, he exiled himself so that he could keep it for himself. In the Bible, the Queen of Sheba adorned herself with the gemstone on her visit with Queen Solomon,
The commercial availability of the Ethiopian opal has become a more widely sourced gemstone. Australia has long been the leader in the production of opal, but recently Ethiopia has come close to overtaking the lead as the primary producer. Due the availability of the Ethiopian opal and the shortage of the Australian opal, Ethiopia could soon be the central source of the opal gemstone.

Also known as the “Stone of Compassion”, peridot is yellowish, green stone that is a form of the mineral olivine. This translucent crystal has also been called the evening emerald. The word peridot is derived from the French word peritôt, meaning unclear, because of the multiple inclusions and fractures commonly found within the gemstone. It is usually produced with smaller pieces as a rather common stone, although high quality peridot if hard to find. The crystal is mined in the United States, Brazil, Egypt, Ireland, Russia, Sir Lanka and The Canary Islands.

History
Being the national gem of Egypt, peridot has a rich history in ancient cultures. It was often mistaken for an emerald in ancient Egypt and many historians now believe that the many gemstones that Cleopatra were actually peridot crystals and not emeralds. It was mining of peridot from the Red Sea happened as early as 2000 B.C. from the island of Topazios. It was believed that the miners would work at night to uncover the gemstone because they believe the peridot was invisible in the sunlight.
Many cultures have associated peridot with luck. If the gemstone was set in gold, then it would bring the wearer good fortune. Ancient goblets would be adorned with the gemstone, that would introduce greatness to the person who drank from it. As a stone that eliminates negativity, peridot commonly was used to ward off evil spirits. The gemstone became popular again in Europe during the Middle Ages up to the 19th century. The gemstone was brought to Europe in vast numbers during this time.

The best way to clean peridot is with warm, soapy water. It is sensitive to heat, acids, ammonia and extreme temperatures. The stone has many inclusions and fractures, so be sure to not introduce strong blows to the gemstone as it can fracture this stone. Peridot gets life from the sun, the earth and water but gets its largest boost of energy when placed in moonlight, preferably the light from a full moon.
Also known as the “Stone of Angels”, Seraphinite was named after the Seraphim; the six-winged angelic beings that are of high importance in the heavens. In Christian angelology, the Seraphim are associated with light, ardor, and purity. Tradition places the Seraphim in the highest order of angels who tend to the throne of God. Seraphinite ranges from a light green to dark green color, and with the presence of Mica, the stone appears Chatoyant. Chatoyancy is defined as a “band of bright reflected light caused by aligned inclusions in the stone”. The enchanting green shimmer of Seraphinite is like that of a beautiful angel in flight. The crystal is known for its high spiritual energies that raise the Kundalini (the female life force that lay coiled at the base of the spine) unblocking and clearing all the chakras as the energy travels upward all the way from the root to the crown. Seraphinite is a stone of spiritual enlightenment and is excellent for accessing self-healing. It is also ideal for angelic connection and aides in accessing the higher spiritual realms. It has a cleansing effect and promotes love and living from the heart. As the stone rinses the heart clean of old emotional patterns and tendencies, it uses its master power to also align the physical body and the etheric. In Feng Shui, Seraphinite is said to bring “wood energy”. This makes perfect sense with its connectedness to the earth and the divine. History
Seraphinite is a silicate mineral called a Clinochlore which originates from the Greek word “chloros” meaning “green”. The stone has also been referred to as Seraphina. It mainly forms in metamorphic rocks and hydrothermal veins when high temperatures and pressures encounter hot mineral-rich fluids. The crystal was first identified in 1851 by Nicolai Ivanovich, a Russian Mineralogist. His research on Seraphinite lead him to become the director of the Imperial Mineralogical Society in St. Petersburg in 1865. Unfortunately, very little history has been documented on this enchanting stone, however, it continues to be very highly coveted. It has since been discovered in other locales in the United States. While there are also deposits in Europe, the largest deposits, although limited, remain in eastern Siberia in Russia. Its use ranges from opulent jewelry, carvings, and high-end space embellishment.

Seraphinite is a softer stone sensitive to heat, pressure and chemicals. It is easiest to clean with some mild soap, lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Store separately from other jewelry to prevent being scratched by harder gems or minerals. Remove before swimming or perspiring as seraphinite is sensitive to acids.
Use with clear quartz to amplify energy. To charge, place on or near selenite, or place in the light of the full moon. You may spiritually cleanse with selenite or smudge with sage.
