Moldavite is a natural green tektite, a type of impact glass formed approximately 14.7–15 million years ago in connection with the meteorite impact that created the Ries crater in what is now Germany. During this extraordinary event, terrestrial material experienced extreme heat and pressure, was ejected from the impact region, and transformed into natural glass.
Moldavite-producing material traveled hundreds of kilometers before falling primarily across regions of what is now the Czech Republic. Natural Moldavite can range from yellowish and olive green to forest, bottle, and brownish green, with varying degrees of translucency and transparency.
