 Amazonite, known as Amazon Stone, is a green/blue tectosilicate mineral, which is a variety of the potassium feldspar called microcline.  Its colors range from blue-green to gray or purple and can be translucent or opaque.  It often appears finely cracked, webbed, or marbled.  Loaded with metaphysical powers and coveted for thousands of years, this stone embraces the ancient calming waters both soothing and tranquil.  These energies are thought to bless those with money, luck, and overall abundance.  Like Jade, this crystal brings about good fortune.  Amazonite also has a calming effect on the nervous system which controls and affects our emotions.  Its captivating colors and spirit are known to subdue edgy and stressful situations.  The stone beckons you to listen to your intuition, seek your truth, and embrace spiritual growth.  It guides us to live our lives with love, integrity, and honesty.  Amazonite also possesses the power to balance masculine and feminine vitality to bring light to all facets of one’s personality.  Its essence is one of universal love, acceptance, and emotional balance.  In those areas of life where we are holding on to emotional trauma, baggage, or overwhelming feelings, its calming energy surrounds you and reminds you that the Universe is there to support you.  It has a “go with the flow” vibe and allows you to consider your next moves in life with ease, love, and grace to manifest your dreams.  The perfect crystal to help you seize the day, process life’s challenges with ease and fill your heart with love as you navigate your path.

Amazonite also possesses powerful filtering capabilities that block geopathic stress, electromagnetic pollution, and electromagnetic smog from modern technologies.  It is an excellent stone to use in an office setting or in between yourself and electronics for its protective and filtering properties.

History

Although the name Amazonite stuck, this stone has also been known as “The Gamblers Stone”, “Stone of Courage” and “Stone of Truth”.  Primarily found in Russia, the crystal can be sourced from various locales throughout the world including Brazil, Madagascar, United States, Libya, China, and Mongolia.  It is considered somewhat rare.  Its name was taken from that of the Amazon River where these greenish blue crystals may have been originally found in the Amazon River basin in Brazil, although this is not officially documented.  The gorgeous gem has been used in beautiful jewelry, ornamental pieces, and carvings for thousands of years.  The first use of Amazonite was over 3,000 years ago and is believed to date back as far as the 10th century BCE.  It has been unearthed in middle and new kingdom Egypt and Mesopotamia.  This stone has always been prized for its beauty and healing powers.  Legend states that the ancient women of the Amazon tribe in Brazil used Amazonite stones to adorn their shields and cure various ailments such as wounds, and illnesses.  These crystals were also given as gifts to travelers when visiting the region. 

Conquistadors decorated themselves in Amazonite ornaments, while the ancient Egyptians carved Chapter 7, The Judgement of Osiris and the Book of the Dead (Egyptian funerary rites) on to Amazonite rock slabs.  The Egyptians made beautiful jewelry, ornamental pieces, and use the stone to carve texts.  A scarab ring, amongst other Amazonite valuables, were unearthed from King Tutankhamen’s treasures.

Proper Care

To cleanse, use lukewarm water and mild soap with a soft cloth to not damage or scratch the surface.  Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight to avoid fading.  You may place it next to or on selenite to cleanse as well as sage/smudging.

To charge, place in/on a selenite plate or bowl or place in the light of the full moon.
