Trolleite was first identified in 1868 at the Vastana mine in Sweden and named in honor of Swedish chemist Hans Gabriel Trolle-Wachtmeister. Initially thought to exist only in Sweden, it has since been discovered in Brazil, Australia, Rwanda, and the United States, with the largest deposits found in Minas Gerais, Brazil, where it forms in massive Quartz veins.
