Sodalite, often referred to as the “Stone of Poetry and Truth,” is a silicate mineral renowned for its high sodium content, a characteristic reflected in its name. Typically found in shades of translucent blue with white inclusions, Sodalite can also occur in a variety of colors, including gray, green, yellow, light red, and lavender. While most stones are semi-transparent, some varieties are more opaque.

Sodalite was admired and traded long before its official discovery in Greenland in the early 1800s. Pre-Columbian civilizations, such as the Caral culture of Peru and the Tiwanaku civilization in Bolivia, used and traded this mineral extensively.

The gemstone earned international acclaim when Princess Margaret of England fell in love with it during her visit to Canada in the 1800s. Enamored by its beauty, she selected Sodalite as the primary decoration for Marlborough House. In honor of her appreciation for the stone, Sodalite is sometimes called “Princess Blue.”
