Pietersite is a brecciated, fibrous variety of Chalcedony composed primarily of Quartz with embedded amphibole mineral fibers. First described from material discovered in Namibia in the early 1960s, Pietersite was named by Sid Pieters in honor of his father, Louis Pieters. Commercial material is particularly associated with Namibia and China.
